If necessity is the mother of invention, then COVID-19 has been the mother of reinvention, twisting nearly all aspects of our lives into modified experiences that are virtually the same or … simply virtual.

Avalon is the perfect place to sip summer cocktails, and now is the best time to try one from the Concord Café. The Concord Café is one of Avalon’s top casual dining restaurants and offers some of the best pizza and wings in town.

When one thinks of the phrase “a life well-lived,” perhaps there is no finer example of that than the life of Dr. Agnew Ross Ewing, who left a lasting impact not only in his hometown of West Grove, Pa., but in Avalon as well.

May is Oregon wine month. There are always special activities and promotional events such as virtual tastings, webinars and classes throughout the month. Oregon has had a long string of outstanding vintages, and the events of May enable the state to showcase all of its outstanding wines.

Summer 2021 is finally here! So are the easing of many restrictions on gathering, attending our favorite restaurants and generally returning to a “new normal.” The season we’ve all been eagerly awaiting is finally here, and one of the big questions our clients at the Anti-Aging and Longevity Center of Philadelphia have been asking is: What can I do to make sure I re-enter social life and shore life safely and responsibly?

I was never the fastest guy on the field or court. I just thought that was the way it was. Some guys and girls were born faster than others. And while that is true to an extent, it might not be the end of the story.

Amodeo Salvatore Beddia, better known in Avalon as “Sam,” lived in keeping with the meanings of his given names for 91 fruitful years. When translated from Italian to English, Amodeo means “lover of God,” and Salvatore means “savior.”

If we have learned one thing over the past year, it’s that you can dress for total comfort and still look good. At this time of year, it’s getting warmer during the day, but at night it can still be a little on the chilly side. If you are sitting out back by the fire pit or heading out to the movies, we have an outfit that will keep you warm and comfortable, and you’ll still look good.

Jon Richard Makowski and Gillian Kelly DiMarzio plan to have a small family wedding in June on her parents’ private dock in Avalon. A large reception is planned at the Avalon Yacht Club in June 2022.

Here’s a pleasant memory from our not-so-distant past: Villa Maria by the Sea in June 2019. Opened in June 1937 on 111th Street in Stone Harbor, this old friend fell in May to make room for a winterized, smaller and more manageable retreat house that will enable the Pennsylvania-based Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary to utilize it 12 months a year.

Summer is finally here! The weather is warming up, the beaches are getting crowded, and bars and restaurants are open and ready for business! We hope that you are gearing up for some nights out. Merry Christmas … er, I meant to say Happy Memorial Day to all. You can see how I may have been confused, since our Uncle Sam has been handing out money at a record pace to help keep the economy going.

We take her for granted as a musical superstar. As well as she should be, given that incredible voice.

So, do we just accept that truism and salute her as the one of the top-selling recording artists of all time?

Or do we fight it because her impact and influence and acceptance – or lack thereof – when it comes to her movie career is curiously underappreciated?

Reading is a great way to take a break from life. Lately, this world can seem a little crazy at times and it’s easy to find yourself worrying and getting caught up in the craziness. I find that if I grab a good book and take a timeout, getting caught up in a good book is a wonderful distraction.

Every month or so, Dave Patrick will dig into to his mailbox and extract another flat, yellow envelope, large enough to hold a magazine. With that, he’ll smile. With that, he’ll know they still remember.

Not everyone remembers.

Anymore, too few do.
