Memorial Day 2018
Dishing with the Chefs
Dining out is a vacation staple for many visitors, and with some of the Jersey Shore’s best restaurants located on the island, you’re sure to find exactly what you’re craving. With 7 Mile Restaurant Week scheduled for June 4-10, we thought we’d take you into some of the finest kitchens in Avalon and Stone Harbor and introduce you to the faces behind each restaurant and your favorite dishes.
Kote Returning to Ocean Galleries
Ocean Galleries will host renowned Albanian artist Josef Kote over Memorial Day weekend at its Stone Harbor location for a four-day exhibit as well as two gallery receptions with the artist.
Born To Serve: Jeff Pierson, Avalon’s Memorial Day Keynote Speaker
Memorial Day grips Jeff Pierson on several levels.
Avalon’s keynote event speaker brings more than glittering military credentials to this occasion. Before the decorated 42-year career in the U.S. Army and New Jersey National Guard, leading to retirement as a brigadier general, Pierson grew up in Wildwood.
Something For Everyone This Summer at the Libraries, Even Books
The Avalon Free Public Library will be a community hub for culture, literature, and fun this summer. From symphony to Storytime and everything in between, the library will keep residents and visitors entertained and engaged.
Let’s Do Launch: After Stone Harbor This Summer, It’s Off to His Space Mission
Most people consider “out of this world” a phrase. Nick Hague will soon call it his workplace.
Restaurant Week: A Mother’s Delight
It’s 2018 and I am two toddlers in, and one car seat closer to a minivan and interactions with the dreaded “soccer mom” – a species I both fear, respect and am starting to know all too well. Kids really do change the way you look at things, right?
Memorial Day Events
The Borough of Avalon and American Legion Post 331 will honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice during the annual Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony on Monday, May 28.
Business Buzz
Avalon and Stone Harbor have a mix of unique shopping, great food establishments, awesome fitness centers and salons and so much more. While each borough has its own business community, many residents and visitors enjoy traveling between the stretch of seven miles to check out the variety offered on the island.
A Lifetime, A Legacy: Sealed With a Kiss, Jeanne Sykes and Her Legacy of Love
Much like her signature lipstick kisses sent via greeting cards to family members and dear friends, Jeanne Sykes’ streak of love touched many lives.
Events at a Glance
Meet the artist Saturday and Sunday from 7-10pm. Ocean Galleries is excited to welcome back renowned artist Josef Kote with his new exhibit, “Harmony in White,” featuring pieces created specifically for his shore customers in mind.
Times Talk
The Townsends Inlet Bridge, connecting Sea Isle City and Avalon, is one step closer to accepting E-ZPass for tolls. And the Grassy Sound Bridge, connecting Stone Harbor to North Wildwood, is already there.
Sea Glass: Tiny Treasures of the Sea
For more than 600 years, ocean pirates have been recorded in history as treasure-chasers. I like to think of sea glass as a tiny treasure of the sea.
Must Haves: Summer Fashion & Beach Basics
When the weather starts getting warmer, it just makes me want to go shopping. Whether it’s clothes, stuff for the house, or even fun stuff for the beach, I feel like everything needs to be new for the season! Fortunately, there are plenty of stores right here carrying everything you need to get you through until Labor Day. Here are some of my favorites.
Seven Mile Style: A Girl’s Night Out On The Town
Ah, summer nights are finally here again! Didn’t it feel like winter just wanted to hang on forever? Well, rest assured it’s gone for now. So get out there and enjoy the warm weather while you can!
Here’s the Dish with Chef Woodrow “Woody” Smith of Chill Rooftop Grill

Beach Safety Is No Accident
Sand, sun, surf, summertime and … safety. Five big “S” words mark Memorial Day to Labor Day on the beaches of the Jersey Shore.
Beach Reads
The Beach Reads column for the Memorial Day edition is always my favorite to write. With the thought of summer bringing nice, long, hot beach days comes the thought of getting my summer reading list together.
