What can be more relaxing and exciting than an early-morning stroll along our beachfront? The warm breezes, sounds of the waves, and freedom from the everyday grind makes our quiet time on the beach so special. The serendipitous uncovering of Mother Nature’s gifts from the sea adds another level of joy.

Outgoing Avalon Mayor Marty Pagliughi presents roses to his longtime assistant, Sue Keen, at his retirement luncheon on June 15 that was attended by Borough of Avalon employees. Pagliughi complimented Keen by referring to her as the “real mayor” of Avalon. She served as the mayor’s assistant for 20 of his 32 years in office.

I love opening the door to a bright, sunny morning inviting me to a walk through my garden with the promise of a new day’s surprises: the berries that have ripened overnight, the squash that has appeared like summer magic … it really is the best part of the day.

During this time of large price increases for wine, I am going to continue to point out some of the great values still found in wine regions around the world. While many consider French wines to be very expensive – which, of course, many are – there are lots of exciting and delicious French wines that are reasonably priced.

My daughter is authoring a cookbook that she is planning to publish at the end of the summer. She loves baking and is constantly putting something together to throw in the oven. She believes it is going to be a daunting task, this cookbook, but she is also fully confident that she will be able to accomplish it.
