Seven Mile Style: A Night Out on the Town
Along with the August heat comes some challenge when you want to wear the perfect outfit. No one wants to be sweating when heading out on a date. Then again, you don’t want to freeze in an air-conditioned restaurant, either. Closet Boutique is the place to go when you need some sophistication yet practicality in your wardrobe.
Seven Mile Style: A Guys Night Out on the Town
Summer nights are so much fun at the shore. Whether you are out with the whole family or having a date night, there’s just something about stepping outside and having it still be 80 degrees. Personally, I think it’s easier for guys to get dressed and go. Grab a pair of shorts, a T-shirt and you are on your way. Global Pursuit is a great spot for one-stop shopping.
Outdoor Entertaining: Sandwich Season
“I don’t like sandwiches,” said no one, ever! Without a doubt, whether warmed, grilled or cold and crispy on a doughy roll, the sandwich is much loved around the world. So, let’s celebrate the glory of the sandwich in August – National Sandwich Month – with a fun and delicious little get-together.
Is That You in the Avalon Anchorage Photos?
Did your family ever begin or finish a fishing trip at the Avalon Anchorage Marina in the 1970s and ’80s? Then you should plan on visiting the Avalon History Center beginning Aug. 11. That’s the date when the History Center, which is located at 215 39th St., will open an exhibit consisting of more than 400 photos from Stan and Lorraine Penska, the former owners of Avalon Anchorage.
Here’s the Dish with Executive Chef Lucas Manteca of Quahog’s Seafood Shack
Quahog’s Seafood Shack Executive Chef Lucas Manteca was exposed to the restaurant industry from an early age while growing up in Argentina, working in restaurants as a server and line cook. Always looking for adventure, Manteca moved around in his 20s and eventually planted his roots in Costa Rica, where he first went into business for himself in 1998.

The Grape State of Washington
A half-century ago, Washington’s biggest claims to fame were Sasquatch and the logging, maritime and aerospace industries. But in 1967, the floodgates of commercial winemaking opened. Since then, the state has rapidly become a leading player in wine production and sales.
Seven Mile Fitness: Shoring Up Your Health
We all know how fun and relaxing the beach can be. That’s why we’re all here at Seven Mile Beach this summer. But I bet you do not realize all of the health benefits one may reap by basking in the sun and swimming in the ocean. From helping with psoriasis to making your workouts more efficient, the beach might be the healthiest spot for many reasons.
Craft Beer: 14 Tips For Your Pub Crawl, Beer Fest, or Brewery Tour
Every year when we get to August, I look forward to the Tour de Shore – Avalon’s biggest pub crawl. The costumes and the shenanigans that ensue make it one of the best days of the year. It got me thinking of the beer-drinking events I have been to in the past, and what I have learned from attending them.
Beach Reads: You’ll Need to Cool Off After These Steamy Books
These are the dog days of summer when occasionally you don’t even want to bother going outside. Hopefully, you can hit the beach and cool off in the ocean. Some midafternoon ice cream doesn’t hurt, either. Whether your toes are in the sand, or you choose to chill out in the AC, here are some hot and steamy books to keep you entertained through the last hot and steamy days of summer.
DVD: Divine Viewing Diversions
For your home-viewing pleasure, here are three strongly likable titles well worth seeking out, each originally released theatrically in the spring – a musical, a horror thriller, and a family drama.
Financially Speaking: Think and Grow Rich
Napoleon Hill wrote the timeless book, “Think and Grow Rich,” in 1937. Hill writes that he was inspired by a suggestion from the business magnate, Andrew Carnegie. Read it and you too can be inspired to think and retire rich.
Earlier this summer, I discussed helping your adult children grow up by closing the bank of Mom and Dad. It certainly got people talking.
Beach Tips for Mommies: What to Pack in Your Beach Cooler
I don’t know about you, but it takes me forever to pack for the beach. Toys, towels, flip-flops, cover-ups, hats, sunscreen, etc. I could go on forever! When you have small children, the hardest and most important thing, if you ask my kids, is the cooler. When we are on the beach, my kids snack all day long. How do you keep it simple while keeping the whole crew happy? Here are some tips that should help.
Big Daddy’s List of Beach Violations
FEEDING SEAGULLS: This just might be the No. 1 violation any human could possibly commit on the beach. It might even deserve life in prison. Not for a little kid who does it. Maybe that only justifies 10 to 20 years, with 5 off for good behavior.
Kids Picks
We know your parents are always saying, “Go outside and play!” It is true that unless you are jumping waves in the ocean, there are some days where it’s just too hot to venture out. On those dog days of summer, let the iPad charge and pick up one of these books to keep you entertained.
