Library Kids Easter Egg Hunt

The Avalon Free Public Library is having an Easter egg hunt for children at the library! There are eggs hidden throughout the Children’s Department. You might find one hidden near the book, video, or WhaZoodle you’re checking out. If you do, take the egg to the Circulation Desk to pick a prize. Limit one prize per patron. Happy hunting!

Spring Beach Sweeps

Clean Ocean Action is looking for volunteers of all ages to help save our environment by cleaning up the beaches. Children age 12 and under must be supervised by an adult. It is suggested that volunteers bring gloves and a trash bucket to reduce the number of plastic bags used. Please note this event is rain or shine. Register at cleanoceanaction.org.
Stone Harbor Job Fair

Cape May County K-9 Unit Demonstration

Come join in the action as the Cape May County K-9 Unit puts its dogs through their paces. It’s a demonstration you won’t soon forget! This is a family event, all ages are welcome.

Easter Egg Scramble

The Avalon Recreation Department is once again hosting the Easter Egg Scramble. With more than 10,000 eggs and a visit from the Easter Bunny, this is one event the kids won’t want to miss! There will be three age categories to allow everyone the opportunity to pick up Easter eggs. The categories are ages 1-4, 5-6, and 7-10. There is no rain date and this event will be canceled in the event of inclement weather.
Avalon’s Bunny Hop

Following the Easter Egg Scramble, head downtown for a visit with the Easter Bunny from 11am-2pm at Veterans Plaza. There will also be face painting, Easter goodies, and special golden eggs hidden around with grand prizes for the lucky children who find them. All activities are sponsored by the Avalon Chamber of Commerce. Shops and restaurants will be open with specials for Easter weekend! You won’t want to miss this hoppin’ good time!

Arbor Day Celebration

The Avalon Garden Club celebrates National Arbor Day each year by planting a tree in Avalon. This year, a London Plane Tree will be planted. A representative from the Avalon Environmental Commission will serve as guest speaker. In case of inclement weather, the event will take place at the 39th Street Tennis Building, located across from the History Center. Join the Garden Club in making a difference — one tree at a time!

Spring Dune Grass Planting

Avalon’s annual Dune Grass Planting calls for volunteers of all ages to participate. Head to the Community Hall for training and supply distribution before you head out to plant. If interested in helping, call Sue Keen (609-967-5924) or Chuck McDonnell (609-967-3066) by April 10. This event is sponsored by the Avalon Environmental Commission, the Avalon Department of Recreation, and the Avalon Department of Public Works.
Play with Jack Foundation Fashion Show

Help raise money for a foundation that lightens the burden of individuals battling cancer. Join in the annual fashion show with this year’s theme, Pretty in Pink. Enchanting Appalachia: Music and Culture

“Enchanting Appalachia” is a music program describing the rich culture and history of Appalachia and its people. This program combines a lecture and interactive music performance performed on the Celtic Bouzouki/Guitar and the Appalachian Mountain Dulcimer. Audience participation is encouraged.

Stop by the Avalon Greenhouse located next to the Avalon History Center to decorate your house in time for summer with hanging baskets, patio pots, tomatoes, flowers, herbs, vegetables, and assortment of native plants. On Saturday, there will also be homemade baked goods for sale to benefit the Avalon Garden Club. Please note cash or check only!

Townwide Yard Sale

Take part in the 30th Annual Townwide Yard Sale, sponsored by the Avalon Garden Club. Rain or shine, sell some of your goods and buy some from your neighbors. Shop around the various sales or enter yourself. Participants must display Authorization Poster at Yard Sale. You may apply online or at Avalon Borough Hall. Avalon Police Department Bike Auction

The Avalon Police Department invites you to attend the annual bicycle auction. The bicycle auction allows the Borough to dispense of surplus property while allowing individuals to purchase used bicycles. All bicycles are sold in as-is condition. Proceeds benefit public safety efforts in our community.

Worse than War: Documentary and Discussion

The History Center will present a screening of “Worse Than War: Genocide, Eliminationism, and the Ongoing Assault on Humanity” – a film by PBS and Daniel Jonah Goldhagen. Before the screening, Robert Holden will show a power point about Goldhagen’s concept of Eliminationism and how it is still practiced on indigenous peoples around the world. Holden is a retired Ocean City teacher and retired Senior Adjunct Professor of History. The film will be shown in its entirety and discussed in detail during the presentation. Please note that graphic content may be shown. This History Center event will be held at Avalon Library.

Spring Puzzle Swap

Drop off your gently used jigsaw puzzles at the library between May 1 and 16 and receive a ticket for the number you dropped off. Then on May 17, stop by the library from 11am to 12:30 pm to exchange your ticket for the same number of new-to-you puzzles. All puzzles must be in the original box and have all of their pieces. Patrons are limited to 10 puzzle drop-offs per person, please. Drop-in puzzle swaps are welcome on the day of.
