Letter from the Editor
Dear Readers,
Admittedly, I was never a big fan of the Grateful Dead. Despite that, it’s hard here not to quote them: “What a long, strange trip it’s been.”
Six months ago, who could ever have imagined the heartaches and changes that we would witness so quickly and unexpectedly? We can’t change what’s happened but I am eager to look ahead since it is summertime! And although we’re sure to experience some differences this summer, the really great news here is that there are some things that haven’t changed … like that unmistakable smell of salt air as you drive in on the boulevards … or the amazing way that your toes feel in the warm, wet sand … or the feel of those warm summer breezes and the way that your heart skips, just a beat or two, when the sun sets in an orange glow over the back bays. It’s summer on the Seven Mile Beach and there isn’t any place better to be. We are so glad that you are back!
Our staff has worked hard putting a great issue of the Seven Mile Times for you this Memorial Day weekend. It is filled with fun things to do and places to go. And there is a special focus honoring those who have served our country, making it possible for us to all enjoy the freedoms that we do. So please, take the time to enjoy each page.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank our readers and advertisers. Like so many other businesses that you have heard about, Seven Mile Publishing is a small business. But we employ more than 18 people full- and part-time, throughout the year. That is 18 families who, at least in part, depend on us. And we take that responsibility very seriously. And we could never accomplish what we do without our advertisers and you, our readers. So, on behalf of everyone involved in making all our publications happen, a heartfelt thank you! And I know that I speak as well for the many small businesses that make up the Seven Mile Beach.
And while Seven Mile Publishing may be a small business, we are especially proud of our BIG reach. Simply put, with our free print edition, digital reach and direct-mail circulation, there is no other publication with a greater reach when it comes to people who love and are interested in Avalon and Stone Harbor. Again, we thank our advertisers and you, our readers, for making that happen.
So at least for now, let’s put on our masks and make sure that we have proper social distancing and let’s begin to enjoy the best time of year – summer on the Seven Mile Beach. After this long and crazy ride, I have a feeling it’s going to be an awesome summer.
Stay well,
Monica Coskey
