Fire Up the Grill & Lighten Up the Menu
Greetings, friends! Seven Mile Beach is once again filled with the familiar signs of summer. Storefront doors are opening, kind-hearted drivers are helping turtles cross the boulevards, and my garden is filling with ripe, juicy strawberries and fragrant basil.
Déjà View: He Left the Rat Race to Rejoin the SHBP, Watch His Family Grow
Tom Lake is living his encore at 44. The former Stone Harbor Beach Patrol lieutenant and two-time Around the Island Row winner can pinch himself, entering a third season of a second lifeguard tour this summer.
In the beach-patrol world, it’s the rarest privilege.
Start Your Beach Vacation a 7, Go Home a 10!
It’s finally beach season and I cannot wait to head down to Seven Mile Beach! I plan on making this my best summer yet!
At our longevity practice, we spend a lot of time talking strategy with our patients, and this means we talk about being intentional. Summer is a great time to focus on skin health and mindful eating.

The Italian Culture Group is celebrating its 15th anniversary and received a proclamation from the Avalon Free Public Library to commemorate the milestone March 10.

1. What did you always want to be when you grew up?
I was always very self-motivated, I guess entrepreneurship was always in my blood. Growing up, I liked the idea of making money while having fun. And I guess I found my niche.
To Your Health: Drinking in Moderation Has Its Benefits
In 2018, a Stanford research team claimed to have found the world’s oldest brewery with residue of 13,000-year-old beer in a prehistoric cave near Haifa, Israel. That is the oldest record of manmade alcohol in the world. According to Guinness World Records, the earliest firm evidence of wine production dates back to 6000 BC in Georgia (the country, not the state).
Times Talk
The Avalon Borough Council approved a contract with Mount Construction of Berlin, N.J., in the amount of $677,431 for a spring sand back-passing project. The project will restore Avalon’s north-end beaches with 64,000 cubic yards of sand between 9th and 16th streets, passed from a borrow area between 32nd and 38th streets
Beach Reads
Summer is upon us, and I hope you are ready to pack your beach bag with great new titles for this season! I have often mentioned that my love of reading came from my mother. Almost every memory I have of her at home, she has a book in her hands.

Comfort is the name of the game. If you can manage to look stylish while also being comfortable, then congratulations are in order. It isn’t always easy to stay on trend in your comfy clothes, but Addison Bay has plenty of choices to help you out.

Seven Mile Style: A Night Out on the Town for Men
Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial kickoff to summer. We like to look at it as the first of many weekends filled with fun nights out on the town. Whether you are heading out with the guys for happy hour or going to a nice restaurant for date night, we have a stylish yet comfortable outfit that works for every venue. Global Pursuit is the place to go for one-stop shopping.
Days Gone By
Let’s look back 78 years to Memorial Day 1944. Here is Mayor Edith Greenan, elected to office in May 1943, overseeing the festivities in the midst of World War II at Avalon’s memorial park, located on the northwest corner (bayfront) of 21st Street and Ocean Drive before being moved down the street to the 21st Street circle.
The Fine Wines of Washington
The wines from the state of Washington are often overlooked by buyers, but they shouldn’t be.
Washington is the second-largest wine-growing region in the United States. Sixty-thousand acres are planted to vines.
Kids Picks
School will be out this month and there’s no time like the present to get started on your summer reading list. Sometimes the teachers will give you books to read, but it’s also fun when you can pick out your own. Here are some great titles that you can enjoy while sitting on the beach or under the warm summer skies.
Financially Speaking: Common Sense Divorce
Splitting up is complicated, but dividing your assets doesn’t have to be. In 2009, Meryl Streep, Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin starred in a romantic comedy, “It’s Complicated.” The movie tagline was, “First comes marriage, then comes divorce, and then divorce … with benefits.” A humorous movie, but it doesn’t show the ugliness that many experience with divorce.
