Fourth of July Activities

Avalon

The festivities kick off on Wednesday, July 3 with a Fourth of July Celebration Boat Parade through Avalon’s back bays. Beginning at 6:30pm, parade watchers are encouraged to find a cozy spot and take in the spectacular sight of boats adorned with patriotic decorations as they parade by.

On Thursday, July 4, there will be outdoor music at Surfside Park beginning at 5:30pm. Acts playing include American-type rock and pop music. Hometown Star-Spangled Jam with Avalon’s new young band Mudshark, Sean Loosh and Brett Haenn’s Black Dandelion, and Marnie Lengle and Nate Kennedy backed by an all-star band of Jersey Cape musicians. Concertgoers can look forward to the best of American rock through the decades from James Brown to Bruce, Johnny Cash to The Eagles and so much more. 

The fireworks will begin at dusk (8:45pm-ish) at Avalon's 30th Street beach. Music for the fireworks will be played on the beach and simulcast live on WCZT 98.7-FM the Coast as in years past.

Stone Harbor

The annual July 4th Celebration at Stone Harbor Recreation is jam-packed full of activities. Unless otherwise noted, the following activities will be held at the Stone Harbor Recreation Athletic field on 82nd Street. Registration begins promptly at 9am at the 82nd Street Basketball Pavilion.

Sand Sculpting Contest 9am-11:30am (82nd Street beach); registration 9-10am, judging at 11:30am. Age groups: 2 to 8, 9 to 15, 16 and up, family or group. Registration required. 

Hoy’s 5 & 10 Candy Scramble 10am. Age groups: 1-6 (Bring your own bag!).

Foot Races 10:15am. Male & female, ages 7 and up.

Phillies Home Run Derby 10:30am, ages 7-12 (boys and girls), registration required.      

Slow Bike Races 10:45am, male & female, age groups 7 and up.

Decorated Bike Contest Will begin immediately after Slow Bike Races. Decorate your bikes, tricycles, wagons, strollers, and wheelchairs, to join in a loved tradition. Age group: Up to 18 years old. Judging will be held in the parking lot next to softball field on Second Avenue & 80th Street at 11:30am. Parade begins at approximately 11:45am. Contestants will walk south on Second Avenue to 83rd Street, east on 83rd to First Avenue, and return to the field for awards. Registration required.

The Pre-Fireworks Celebration will also take place on 82nd Street Recreation Field beginning at 6pm. There will be food trucks and live music from Jim Bannach and the BLT Orchestra from 6-9pm. Fireworks will begin at dusk (approximately 9:15pm) off the 81st Street beach.
