Welcome to the summer of 2021! July is without a doubt my favorite month of the year. Sun-drenched days, and is there any better place to be than on our beaches on a gorgeous July afternoon?

A few years back, Stone Harbor summer resident Greg Lingo sat down with a couple of friends from the old neighborhood and started swapping stories about growing up in Upper Darby. Those tales would inspire the movie “Last Call,” which Lingo describes as “a love letter back to a blue-collar neighborhood and how special it is.”
Fourth of July Events
The Fourth of July celebration in Avalon begins around 7:30pm at Surfside Park (30th Street and the beach) with a concert by the Bay Atlantic Symphony, led by music director Jed Gaylin.

‘Born a Teacher’ Kathleen Fox’s Path to Superintendent of Avalon Stone Harbor Schools
In the coming days, the Avalon and Stone Harbor communities will welcome their new superintendent of schools, Kathleen Fox. The new head of Avalon Stone Harbor Schools arrives after more than 12 years with Brigantine Public Schools, first as curriculum coordinator, then as principal. She succeeds Stacey Tracy, who retired.
Honoring Father Riley: Augustinian Fund to Be Named for Friar Who Is No Stranger to Avalon
The Augustinian Province of Saint Thomas of Villanova will rename its fund to provide proper health care for its elderly and infirmed friars in honor of Father George Riley, O.S.A. Lots of people associated with Villanova University and Seven Mile Beach understand why.

The Wetlands Institute stands proudly in the salt marsh at the foot of the bridge into Stone Harbor. For more than 50 years, it has functioned with a singular mission, “to promote appreciation, understanding and stewardship of wetlands and coastal ecosystems through programs in research, conservation, and education.”

The Stone Harbor Squids won the championship of the Atlantic City Beer Hockey League on April 29 and took home the silver-and-gold trophy. The Squids, founded by Pete Lengle and Buddy Simmerman, are celebrating their 25th year in the league.
