Days Gone By

As you are reading this, many children have already gone back to school. In this photo, circa 1932, it looks like they are getting the old Avalon School bus gassed up and ready for the first week of school. In those days, the school was located on 26th Street and you can still see the building in its original location. Shown here is the service station on 21st Street. Some of the building from this service station makes up part of the Sea Grille. The station sold Socony gasoline, which was a product of the Standard Oil Company. Socony stations became Mobil stations in 1966. This location became an Atlantic station in the 1950s. The house in the background was moved to 20th Street about 50 years ago, and it still stands there today.
