Join Ocean Galleries for the return of famed 16-year-old artist Autumn de Forest in her fourth appearance. The young artist has said she finds inspiration in the studies of dreams and psychology, and her works explore a variety of styles and themes, often using canvases larger than herself. Guests to the exhibit will have the opportunity to meet the artist at gallery receptions Friday, Aug. 31 through Sunday, Sept. 2, from 6-10pm.

War at the Shore Touch Football Tournament

9am to 5pm, Stone Harbor Recreation Fields

War at the Shore returns with its popular Touch Football Tournament hosted by Philly Sports League. The eight-member coed teams each play at least two games (adults only).

Tim Kerr Charities Splash N’ Dash

6:30pm, 30th Street beach

Kids ages 5-10 are invited to join in this athletic event that includes a 100-meter ocean swim parallel to the beach followed by a 1-kilometer beach run. Older participants ages 11-15 will do a 200M swim and a 2K beach run. Participants who competed in all three summer children’s events will receive the Hat Trick award.

Tim Kerr Charities 7 Mile Island Run and TK5K Run/Walk

7am registration, 8:30am race, Avalon Community Hall

Tim Kerr Charities is celebrating the 30th anniversary of this event, offering the choice of a 7-mile run or a 5K run/walk through Avalon. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Helen L. Diller Vacation Home for Blind Children, the Ed Snider Youth Hockey Foundation, and Back on My Feet.

9/11 Ceremony

Avalon plans to remember 9/11 with a ceremony starting with the American Legion Post #331 providing color guard, a rifle guard and taps. Avalon Mayor Martin Pagliughi and Stone Harbor Mayor Judith Davies-Dunhour along with both town councils, the Legion and veterans will join in on the ceremony. Featuring guest speaker Matthew Eversmann, 1st Sgt. US Army and a Remembrance Reflection by Ray Gagnon, Master Gunnery Sgt., US Marine Corps.

23rd Annual Nuns’ Beach Surf Contest

7am, 111th Street beach, Stone Harbor

Surf’s up! For years, the nuns of Villa Maria By-The-Sea have allowed surfers to access this private beach while it is not in use by visiting nuns. As a thank you, the surfers developed this fundraiser for the convent. The contest welcomes surfers of all ages and skill levels for a great day on the water.

Play With Jack Golf Outing

7 Mile Island Trick-or-Treating

5-8pm, Island-wide

Princes or princesses, ghosts and cowboys, all are welcome during the island-wide trick-or-treating event. For property owners throughout Avalon and Stone Harbor who wish to be on the official route, be sure to register your address no later than Oct. 26; you will receive a wooden pumpkin to display on your lawn or door to indicate your participation.
