ZEBRA BORN AT ZOO; ANY NAME IDEAS?
The Cape May County Zoo welcomed a baby Grant’s zebra on July 14, born to parents Gretta and Ziggy. Grant’s zebra is the smallest of the seven subspecies of plains zebra. The last zebra born at the Zoo was Gracie in 2003.
The new baby Zebra is a girl and the Cape May County Zoo plans to host a naming contest for its new addition. Suggestions for a name poured into the comments section of the Zoo’s Facebook page when the news was announced and the zookeepers are narrowing down the suggestions. Once narrowed down, the finalists will be posted to the Zoo’s facebook page, where everyone can vote. The Cape May County Zoo now has four zebras; Gretta, Ziggy, Gracie and the baby.
While visiting the zoo, the zebras can be seen from the Savanna Bridge during zoo hours, 10am-4:30pm. All visitors over the age of 2 must wear a mask and practice social distancing.
