Martin Smith is the author of “Philadelphia Big 5,” which traces the lore and history of the Philadelphia’s Big 5, an informal basketball league formed in 1955 that includes La Salle, Temple, St. Joseph’s, Villanova and Penn.

Avalon Baby Parade

Grab your little ones and head over to 21st Street for the annual Avalon Baby Parade. Enter in a variety of categories including Best Beach Baby, Best Float Design, Happiest Baby and more for a chance to win trophies and join in the parade! Mickey Mouse and friends will be there to meet the young participants, along with crafts and giveaways. The parade will head down the street to Veterans Plaza, where awards will be given to winning participants. Live music by Boy in Black following awards from 7-8:30pm.

Back by popular demand, Kote returns with an all new collection, featuring his distinctive style of blending classic academic and abstract elements. Grab the family and spend the morning focusing on fitness! The first 2.5 miles of this run will be held on the beach at 80th street, then south to Stone Harbor point and back, with the final 2.5 miles on the road. Kids and relay participants are encouraged to join in!

Women’s Suffrage in New Jersey

From Antoinette Blackwell to Alice Paul, learn about the women who led the fight for voting rights. In 1776, New Jersey gave women who owned property the right to vote. In 1807, a legislative enactment revoked this right. Follow the movement covering the next 113 years!
