The Avalon Free Public Library is having an Easter egg hunt for children with eggs hidden throughout the children’s department. You might find one hidden near the book, video, or WhaZoodle you’re checking out. If you do, take the egg to the circulation desk to pick a prize. Limit one prize per patron. Happy hunting!

Get ready for an Easter celebration at the Cape May County Park & Zoo as it transforms into a bunny wonderland! Families are invited to take part in a three-day event featuring an Easter Bunny Hide and Seek game, HOPstacle course, scavenger hunt, and more! The Easter Bunny will be ready for photos from 11am-2pm on Saturday, April 4 only.
Easter Egg Scramble

The Avalon Recreation Department is once again hosting its annual Easter Egg Scramble. You don’t want to miss this event for the kids, with 10,000 eggs to find and a visit from the Easter Bunny! There will be three age categories to allow everyone the opportunity to pick up Easter eggs. The groups are ages 1-4, ages 5-6, and ages 7-10. There is no rain date and this will be canceled in the event of inclement weather.

Following the Easter Egg Scramble, hop on over to Veterans Plaza for a visit with the Easter Bunny from 11am-2pm. Bounce through shops and restaurants that will be open with specials for Easter weekend, and offer sweet treats for the kids. You don’t want to miss this hoppin’ good time! This event is sponsored by the Avalon Chamber of Commerce.
The Battle of Turtle Gut

Learn all about pivotal moments from the American Revolutionary War that took place off the coast of Cape May. The Battle of Turtle Gut, a lesser known yet significant battle, will be explored with John Ryan of Historic Cold Spring Village.
British Afternoon Tea

Enjoy a variety of teas and other refreshments while watching a documentary about the British monarchy. Registration is required.
Spring Beach Sweeps

Clean Ocean Action welcomes volunteers of all ages to take part in a movement that helps save our environment by cleaning up the beaches. Children age 12 and under must be supervised by an adult. It is suggested that volunteers bring gloves and a trash bucket to reduce the number of plastic bags used. This event is rain or shine. Register at cleanoceanaction.org to volunteer.

America 250

This presentation is titled “From Home and Hearth to the Battle: Black Presence in Colonial West & East Jersey.” Ellen Alford will discuss how white, black, and Native American men fought on both sides during the War of Independence. During five years from 1776-80, New Jersey was where soldiers, slaves, natives, and common citizens were in the crosshairs. Black and native people lived and worked in the state during this time and contributed to the war in ways they considered significant to their freedom.

Avalon Garden Club Spring Card Party

The Avalon Garden Club is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a special luncheon honoring five decades of gardening, community, and fellowship. Stone Harbor’s Sip & Shop Weekend

Shop, sip, and sample your way through Stone Harbor’s amazing shops, boutiques, spas, businesses, and restaurants with your family and friends! On Friday, local businesses will stay open 4-7pm with happy hour specials at participating bars and restaurants. On Saturday, participating shops will serve up sips and small bites with specials, demonstrations and more. Participating businesses will be open on Sunday.
Spring Dune Grass Planting

Protect Avalon’s beautiful shores by planting dune grass at the annual Spring Dune Grass Planting. Volunteers of all ages are asked to meet at the Avalon Community Hall for a brief demonstration while plants and planting utensils are handed out. After planting is finished, bagged lunch will be available for volunteers. If interested, please contact Jordan Sykes to RSVP at 609-967-3066 or email jsykes@avalonboro.org. In case of inclement weather, the event will be moved to Sunday, April 19.
AARP Safe Driver Course

Refresh your driving skills with this AARP “Smart Driver Course” to learn defensive driving techniques, proven safety strategies, new traffic laws, and rules of the road. Arbor Day Celebration

The Avalon Garden Club celebrates National Arbor Day each year by planting a tree in Avalon. This year is the 50th anniversary of the club, and it will plant a multi-stem river birch tree. Joe Dvoark, a member of the Environmental Commission and Tree Commission, will be a guest speaker. In case of inclement weather, the event will take place at the 39th Street Tennis Building, across from the History Center. Make a difference one tree at a time and join the Avalon Garden Club!

A handout will be provided that will list book repair products while learning the pros and cons of book treatments and lifespan of certain book repair treatments. Tiny Art Show Pick-Up

The Avalon Free Public Library needs participants for their Tiny Art Show! Stop by the library from May 1-15 or while supplies last, to pick up a Tiny Art Show Kit with everything you need to paint a work of art! Art pieces will be displayed in the show, so participants are asked to return painted and dry canvas to the library by May 22. Art will be displayed from May 22-June 28.
Avalon History Center Photo Contest

The Avalon Historical Society is accepting entries for the annual photo contest from May 2-23. Contest guidelines and entry forms can be found on the website calendar. Judging will be held in late May and the exhibition will begin June 1. Contestants can be adults, teens, or children.

If you are taking part in this event, you must display an authorization poster at the yard sale that will be given out at registration or delivered to the listed address. Maps will be handed out at the community hall and are available at avalongardenclub.org. All proceeds support community beautification.

Spring Puzzle Swap

Drop off your gently used jigsaw puzzles at the library from May 1 to 8 to receive a ticket for the number of puzzles you drop off, with a limit of 10. All puzzles must be in the original box and have all their pieces. On May 9, stop by the library to exchange your ticket for the same number of new-to-you puzzles. Drop-in puzzle swaps are welcome on the day of the exchange.
Avalon Police Department Bike Auction

Margaret’s Diary During a Revolution

In December 1776, tensions were high between Hessians and Patriots near Trenton. While many fled Burlington during this time, Margaret Morris stayed and wrote her story. Classic American Tales will present “Margaret’s Diary During a Revolution,” written and performed by Gayle Stahlhuth, based on Margaret’s diary during this time.

The STEAM Teams will learn about the Alpine Skiing Sport of Slalom and Slalom Superstar Mikaela Shiffrin. We will discuss the forces of gravity, friction, centripetal force, and air resistance in slalom skiing. Next they will design a prototype and collaborate with their team to design a Ski Slalom Speedway that functions like the prototype and have slalom races.
