AHC Presents: Greenwich Tea Burning

Happy Halloween! Register your property for the Trick-or-Treat route and a representative from the Stone Harbor Recreation Department will drop off a wooden pumpkin to mark your house as a part of the festivities. Pick up your map at the 82nd Street recreation building and get ready for a night of fun!

Stone Harbor Business District Trick-or-Treat

Bring your little ghosts to downtown Stone Harbor to trick-or-treat through participating businesses. Look for GHOST signs on the doors or windows of participating businesses. Sponsored by the Stone Harbor Chamber of Commerce.
Fall Dune Grass Planting

“Carolyn Vinci maintains dual residences at the Jersey Shore and in Fredericksburg, Virginia where she is a culinary instructor with a focus on fresh seasonal ingredients and seafood. She penned a food column for a Gannett newspaper for 14 years, judged cooking contests and attended food trade shows in New York City to amass a sizeable inventory of recipes and cooking trends. She brings an easy approachable style to the kitchen and offers tips and techniques that will make cooking fun.”

Railroads, Tourism & Commuters at the Jersey Shore

Once considered a desolate coast, the Jersey Shore became a vacation hub thanks to the railroads, which brought day-trippers and summer visitors alike. As technology shifted, these rail lines adapted to serve commuters, reshaping the shore’s identity. Bill Elwell explores this history at the Avalon Library through vintage timetables and advertisements.
Fall Puzzle Swap

Drop off your gently used jigsaw puzzles at the library between October 1st and 17th and receive a ticket for the number you dropped off. On Saturday, October 18th, stop by the library from 11am to 12 pm to exchange your ticket for the same number of new-to-you puzzles. All puzzles must be in the original box and have all of their pieces. Patrons are limited to 10 puzzle drop-offs per person, please! Any additional puzzle swaps are welcome the day-of.
Fall Beach Sweep

Join Clean Ocean Action and the Borough of Stone Harbor for the Fall Beach Sweep to help scour the beaches for debris. Volunteers should bring gloves and dress appropriately for the weather. Trash bags and trash pickers will be provided.
Tea Time at the Avalon History Center

These classes, led by Linda Schwartz at the Avalon Free Public Library, help reduce stress, release unhelpful habits, and foster connection through gratitude practice, body scans, guided meditation, and group dialogue.
The Forgotten Holocaust

The Forgotten Holocaust – As Germany entered the colony race in Africa, (albeit somewhat reluctantly) they took over lands that were occupied by the Nama and Herero People., and committed a Genocide against them in Eastern and Southwest Africa. This Power Point and film will examine the lead up to that Genocide from 1904-1908, and we will discuss how the genocide against the Jews from 1933-1945 was a follow up to what happened in Africa. Familiar names appear during both periods, so can we say that the genocide perpetrated in Africa was a “training ground” for the future?
