What should readers expect: The Avalon Free Public Library is launching its 2021 Summer Reading Program featuring the theme, “Tails and Tales.” Readers of all ages can begin signing up online for the program, and start reading! Log your reading throughout the summer and meet the reading goal by Aug. 7 to win a special prize, plus there are fun prizes throughout the summer!

Highlights: “Kids’ Parrot Palooza” Virtual Program on May 28 at 10am. This year’s reading program is all about animals, so help the library kick things off and soar through the world of parrots. Join the virtual presentation for a chance to meet a parrot while learning all about these colorful and intelligent birds.

PowerHouse Field Hockey Camp

Skill level: Beginners to advanced
Time: 9am-noon

What should campers expect: PowerHouse Field Hockey camp hosts a fun and competitive environment created to sharpen skills from beginner to advanced. Campers will enjoy a curriculum built to cater to all participating ages and skill levels, and will boost players to the next level. Take part in focused drills and games designed to sharpen skills, improve strength and speed, and gain leadership and confidence both on and off the field.

Highlights: The coaches themselves! Campers will receive a knowledgeable and skilled training experience from U.S. national team and Olympic-level coaches. Join coach Stefanie Fee, a 2016 Rio Olympian and 2018 World Cup player, along with founder Lauren Pfeiffer, a former national team player and an All-American at the University of Iowa.

What should campers expect: Recess is a high-energy outdoor exercise program for children ages 4 through 8, and it’s all about being active, fit and fun. The goal of this camp is to keep kids moving, playing and healthy! Campers will enjoy a day mixed with fitness exercise, relays, obstacle courses, sports, games, and more! Each activity incorporates a healthy lifestyle with daily lesson plans that will engage campers with fun and fitness. This camp lets kids be kids, while teaching the importance of daily fitness for their mind and body.

Highlights: Don’t tell your parents, but these camps tend to get a bit silly … all the time! The last day of camp always ends with a water day featuring water balloon fights, water guns, and all-around summer fun.

Villanova Soccer Camps

What should campers expect: Villanova Soccer Camps, led by Wildcats men’s coach Tom Carlin, feature a structured yet fun and enthusiastic camp environment for youth soccer. Campers of all skill levels can expect to be mentored and trained by top club and college coaches and players, and participate in a variety of fun-filled activities. Participate in 4V4 and 7V7 camp matches, technical development with and without the ball, development in agility, balance and coordination, and more.

Highlights: The training curriculum for Nova Soccer Camps follows “The Nova Way,” incorporating the four pillars of developing one’s inner self: cooperation, self-determination, self-confidence, and self-motivation. So as students train on the field, they will also gain valuable insight on teamwork, friendship, respect for the game, confidence, and the ability to feel good and work hard for teammates and coaches.

Avalon Basketball Camp

What should campers expect: Next season starts now! Join T-John Casiello and his team for this summer’s Avalon Basketball Camp. The camp will take a more modern approach to the experience with skill-appropriate drills, 3v3 games, and more. Players can expect a fun camp atmosphere with skills training in ball handling, shooting, and scoring drills. And players will learn from the best! The coaches on the Casiello Basketball Team have college and professional experience and will work one-on-one with campers to focus on moving to the next level.

Highlights: Former Philadelphia 76er player Nik Stauskas is scheduled to speak with campers! Plus the first 40 players to register will receive a custom Avalon jersey, a VIP player pass and more fun giveaways.
