Letter from the Editor
Dear Readers,
It’s my pleasure to welcome you to the Summer of 2021. Wow, does it ever feel good to say that!
I know that you’re going to love our Memorial Day issue. It is packed with tons of useful information and lots of great reading.
First, I hope that you’re hungry because we’re going to tempt your palate by introducing you to the talented chefs of the Seven Mile Beach. With so many wonderful restaurants, this is a great opportunity to maybe find another favorite.
Got your running shoes on? Jack McCaffery reminds us that the guy that you blew by last week might have been just taking it easy on you. Stone Harbor’s Dave Patrick was an eight-time All-American and four-time national champion and one of the top track athletes in the world. Jack will bring you up to speed.
Vicky Parente has been diligently watching “Mare of Easttown” for us on HBO Max and had an opportunity to sit down with Brad Ingelsby, the writer and creator from Avalon. Vicky doesn’t give up any secrets, but it’s a fun look behind the scenes of Hollywood.
Exciting news down on 80th Street. The families who owned the Windrift since its inception sold to the ICONA Group this winter. Marybeth Hagan talks to everyone involved to bring you up to date. And while the dog days of summer haven’t begun yet, Mary Byrne Lamb has a really cool story about Stone Harbor’s Dee Sorensen. Dee was a volunteer veterinarian for the Iditarod in Alaska this spring. Mary will tell you about Dee’s experience in “The Coolest Race on Earth.”
A tradition with the Seven Mile Times, Dave Coskey reminds us what Memorial Day is really about with a moving profile of Stephen Ludlam, a Stone Harbor teenager who left high school in his senior year and made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms in World War II. We always look to keep his memory alive.
And there was a changing of the guard at the Avalon Beach Patrol. Dave Bontempo introduces us to new Chief Matt Wolf and Captain Ryan Black.
And of course, there are all our regular features that you look forward to in each issue. Our calendar of events fills you in on everything that’s going on and where you need to be in May and June. In Business Buzz, we’ll help catch you up with everything new around Avalon and Stone Harbor. And Smilestones never disappoint – they always bring a smile.
Summer is finally here, so enjoy yourself as you spend time with your family and friends on our incredible beaches, in our fabulous restaurants and all of the great shops. And please, take time this weekend to remember the true meaning of Memorial Day – we’re all thankful for those who have sacrificed so much for the freedoms that we enjoy.
And thanks to you for making Seven Mile Times the most-read publication exclusively for the Seven Mile Beach.
Here’s to an amazing Summer of 2021. Enjoy our wonderful town, but please remember to stay safe.
Stay well,
Monica Coskey
