When School’s Out, Time for Camps!

Attention, parents! We previewed a number of outstanding summer camps in our Spring issue of Seven Mile Times, featuring activities and learning experiences for every age and skill level. As summer quickly approaches, more camps are joining the list with field hockey, surfing, SAT prep, and, of course, summer reading. These interactive camps, are the perfect way to keep kids engaged and having fun throughout the summer season. Check these out and register today!


Mayhem Field Hockey Down the Shore Camp

Dates: Aug. 8-11 & 15-18
Location: Dealy Field, Sea Isle City
Times: Morning sessions 9am-noon; Night session 5-7pm (Aug. 8-11 only)
Sessions are sold separately.
Cost: $195-$299
Ages: Grades K-8 for morning sessions, Grades 6-12 for night sessions
Skill level: All skill levels welcome

Equipment needed: Water bottle, field hockey stick, shin guards, mouth guard, sneakers or cleats
What to expect: For the first time, Main Line Field Hockey (Mayhem) is heading to the shore! Campers will enjoy hockey fun in the sun with high-energy drills and skill development. Core curriculum for campers will include possession, skills and ball control, scoring and techniques, defensive tactics and, of course, fun! The camp will include small-sided games and scrimmages, drills, and each session will focus on individual skill level and techniques.
Highlights: Mayhem is more than just field hockey. This camp focuses on building confidence in young women, and highlights coaches who are not only experts in the craft, but who also serve as role models to the attendees.


Avalon Surf Camp

Dates: Monday-Friday, June 27-Sept. 2
Time: 9-11am
Location: 12th Street beach, Avalon
Cost: $475 for weekly camp

Ages: 7 or older, boys and girls (must be comfortable in the water)
Skill level: Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced lessons are offered.
Equipment required: Bathing suit. Avalon Surf Camp provides everything else, including the wetsuit.
What to expect: Campers age 7 and up will enjoy a full morning of surfing with experienced instructors certified by the International Surfing Association. No skill level is required, and campers will be categorized by colored jerseys based on surfing ability and experience, from beginner to advanced. Campers will receive ocean, beach, and surfing instruction, including waterman skills and lessons on rip currents, undertows, and ocean conditions. Sign up your kids for the fastest-growing sport worldwide. Surf’s up!
Highlights: Certified instructors are required to have a minimum of 5 years of experience. The camp isn’t just about catching the waves; it’s also about respecting ocean behavior and Mother Nature, and becoming a waterman.


Teen SAT Prep Series: Verbal & Math

Dates: July 5, 12, 19, 26; Aug. 2, 9
Location: Avalon Free Public Library
Times: 3-5pm
How to register: avalonfreelibrary.org
Equipment needed: Books will be provided on loan.
What to expect: Don’t be afraid of the SAT! Learn tips and tricks of the SAT entrance exam including practice testing techniques. Class size is limited, registration is required. Avalon property owners may register starting June 5. All others may register beginning June 21. Students should plan to attend all six sessions.


Oceans of Possibilities Summer Reading Program

Dates: Deadline by Aug. 12 to win a special prize.
Time: Read all summer long!
Location: Pick up a reading log at the Avalon Free Public Library.
Ages: Patrons of all ages are invited to participate (adults and teens included).
What to expect: Join the Avalon Free Public Library for the 2022 Summer Reading Program. Patrons of all ages are invited to participate. For ages up to 12, for every 20 minutes you read, earn 20 points. Earn 1,200 points by Aug. 12 to win a special prize. All participants will have a chance to win prizes throughout the program. Check out the library’s Summer Guide for information about the dozens of free kids and family activities this summer including story times, crafts, special events, and more.
