A very special event with bestselling children’s author/illustrator Jarrett J. Krosoczka. “JJK” is the writer of the “Lunch Lady” series, and many more popular titles. He will be reading from his books, talking about his writing, and will draw some of his characters live! Books will be available for purchase at the event.

Tour of Native Plants and Pollinators Benefiting from Them
9:30-10:30am, Avalon Pollinator Garden, 71st Street & Ocean Drive

Co-sponsored with the Environmental Commission. Pat Sutton will lead a tour of the Avalon Pollinator Meadow to showcase keystone native perennials that are thriving on this barrier island and the pollinators they’ve attracted and benefited from. Don’t forget to bring your binoculars if you want to see the pollinators Pat spots and points out. Species in season include wild bergamot, rattlesnake master, and joe-pye weed. Additionally, with the large patches of various milkweeds in the garden, summer monarchs should be present and busy mating and laying their eggs to create additional generations.

Turtles of the Jersey Shore
6-7pm, Surfside Park, 2901 Avalon Ave., Avalon

We have all kinds of turtles here at the Jersey Shore! During this presentation, we’ll meet several species that can be found locally, including the Northern Diamondback Terrapin, the only reptile found in a salt marsh and the turtle you’re most likely to see crossing the road in Avalon. This is an all-ages program, presented by Erin Rawls from The Wetlands Institute and co-sponsored with the Environmental Commission.

Bay Atlantic Symphony Presents Summer Classics

Bay Atlantic Symphony returns with a full chamber orchestra. Join us for an evening of music that puts orchestras on the map! These classics will delight your heart as they have for audiences throughout the generations. Magnetic violin soloist Qing Li returns to Avalon to dazzle you in Mozart’s effervescent concerto, and our own maestro will accompany Qing on the piano in a timeless encore. Haydn’s fast and fiery Symphony 44 closes out this program of classic gems.

Mapping the Railroads of Cape May

Local railroad enthusiast Paul Mulligan will explore the dawn of railroads in New Jersey, starting in 1830, and the construction of the first line through Cape May County into Cape May City in 1863.

Henna Workshop
