It’s the most wonderful time of the year. Everyone is out buying presents, decorating, and enjoying all the magic the season has to offer. Hopefully you have the chance to soak it all in. If you are looking for a holiday book to unwind with, or you need a gift for a friend, here are some holiday stories that we enjoy reading over, and over, again.

“Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Sleigh!” By Mo Willems

Kids will laugh along with The Pigeon while he sets out to do the one thing his holiday won’t be complete without.

“D Is for Dreidel: A Hanukkah Alphabet” by Greg Paprocki

This book is a wonderful way to teach your little ones the alphabet while also teaching them about Hanukkah. There are 26 drawings with Hanukkah-inspired concepts such as latkes, the menorah, dreidels and more, that correspond with each letter of the alphabet.

Ages 6-8

“Dr. Seuss’s How the Grinch Lost Christmas!” by Alastair Heim

It wouldn’t be Christmas without the famous Grinch, would it? Well, he’s back and with a new tale! It’s been a whole year since the Grinch tried to ruin everyone’s Christmas. Now he wants to prove to everyone in Who-ville that he’s changed. He loves the holiday now and has a plan to decorate the largest tree he can find and win the Christmas Crown. But when his plan doesn’t work out, the Grinch loses his spirit and threatens to leave Who-ville forever. Then one tiny Who finds a way to convince him that Christmas isn’t about winning after all.

“Pete the Cat: Snow Daze” by James Dean

When school is canceled because of the weather, Pete can’t wait to get all of his friends together to play in the snow. All he wants to do is have snowball fights, drink hot chocolate, make snow cats, and spend the whole day in the white powdery stuff! Then school is canceled the next day for more snow. Then it happens again! Is it possible to have too many snow days?

Ages 9-12

“Tis The Season” by Ann M. Martin

Flora and Ruby are preparing to spend their first Christmas without their parents, and they aren’t sure how they feel about it. They are flooded with so many memories, some happy and some sad. Fortunately, they have a big support group filled with people who love them, including their grandmother Min, and their friends Olivia and Nikki. But everyone has their own troubles to deal with. Next thing they know, their aunt shows up unexpectedly and she is sure to bring trouble with her. This might be a Christmas no one will ever forget.

“When Santa Fell to Earth” by Cornelia Funke

Twinklestar is not Santa’s best reindeer, mainly because he is not reliable. When he is scared by a storm, Twinklestar runs and causes Santa’s sleigh to crash. The good news is that they have landed in a nice neighborhood. The bad news is that Jeremiah Goblynch, the leader of the Council of Yuleland, is a bad person. He wants to end the season of wishes and turn it into something he can make money from. Thankfully, Santa is around to try to put a stop to his evil plan. He’s going to need some help from children in town, but he might save Christmas after all.
