Tim Kerr Charities 7 Mile Island Run and 5K Run/Walk

Proceeds from this annual event will benefit the Helen L. Diller Vacation Home for Blind Children and Back on My Feet. End the summer with a run for great causes, including awards for top finishers in each category!

September 2

1st Annual Jeff Michner Memorial Golf Tournament |
1:30pm, Stone Harbor Golf Club

Spend the day on the golf course to honor the memory of Jeff Michner, with proceeds from the event going to the Jeff Michner Scholarship Fund. The scholarship will be awarded to a senior at Ocean City High School who is a golfer and/or pursuing a career in the culinary arts. The tournament will include a shotgun start at 1:30pm, and include dinner and awards, a 50/50 raffle, a silent and live auction and multiple chances throughout the day to win including longest drive, closest to the pin and more. Sponsorship opportunities and sign-ups are still available.

The Avalon Chamber of Commerce hosts this annual event highlighting Avalon’s great shops and drastic end-of-season discounts! Shop for clothing, shoes, apparel, accessories, home décor and more! Plus, stop by Bobby Dee’s Rock ’n Chair Restaurant throughout the weekend for lunch, dinner and cocktail specials, and rest your feet before hitting the deals again!

Get in Gear: Exceptional Bike ’n Stroll Experience

Villa Maria By-the-Sea Open House

Join Sister James in bidding a fond farewell to Stone Harbor’s historical Villa Maria By-the-Sea this fall with an open house and guided tours. Light refreshments will be served in the dining room, and music will be provided by Sister Diane and Sister Ginny. Note that due to the scheduled demolition and rebuilding project of the venue, the annual Nuns’ Beach Surf Contest and Dinner Auction will not be held this year.

American Legion Spaghetti Dinner

Sitting in the Atlantic Flyway, The Wetlands Institute is in the heart of a nature phenomenon as thousands of migratory birds make their way across the Cape May Peninsula every fall. Join the institute in celebrating this spectacular influx of raptors, warblers, waterfowl and more! The event will feature hands-on fun and activities, programs, walks, tours and more for all ages.

“Wine Regions Around the World”

Admission is free to this fall flower show featuring entries in artistic design (Garden Club members), horticulture (open to general public), plus an entry by the students of Stone Harbor Elementary School. The flower show, with this year’s theme of “Wine Regions Around the World,” will feature brightly colored flowers, greenery and more. Note that this event is held every two years, so plan to attend this year!

Wine, Beer and Food Festival

18th Annual Play With Jack Foundation Golf Outing

Spend the perfect fall Friday on the links for a great cause by joining the Play With Jack Foundation for its annual golf outing. Registration and lunch begin at noon, followed by a 1pm shotgun start. Enjoy refreshments and an awards ceremony following the day. Proceeds will benefit the Play With Jack Foundation, established to raise funds and awareness in an effort to fight cancer in Jack Cremin’s honor.

Avalon Lions Club Pasta Night

Enjoy an evening at the Windrift Hotel Resort as the Lions Club brings a taste of Italy to Avalon in one of their charity events. Along with a spaghetti and meatball dinner, there will be raffles, an auction and live entertainment. Tickets are $17 per person, $8 for children under 12. Takeout is also available.

7 Mile Island Trick-or-Treating
5-8pm, Island-wide

Princes and princesses, ghosts and cowboys all are welcome during the island-wide trick-or-treating event. For property owners throughout Avalon and Stone Harbor who wish to be on the official route, be sure to register your address no later than Oct. 26; you will receive a wooden pumpkin to display on your lawn or door to indicate your participation.

Olde Fashion Christmas Bazaar
9am-2pm, Avalon Methodist Church

Start your holiday shopping and decorating early at the Avalon Methodist Church’s annual Olde Fashion Christmas Bazaar. Browse a wide variety of handcrafted gifts, ornaments and decorations, plus stop by the “gently used” Christmas items table for great décor at a discount. Baked goods and gourmet foods for lunch will be available, so make an afternoon out of it!
