‘DAVE DAY’ RAISES $5,300 FOR CANCER CENTER
The fourth annual “Dave Day,” held Aug. 11 in memory of Avalon summer resident Dave Whitnack, raised more than $5,300 for the Abramson Cancer Center at the University of Pennsylvania.
Organized by Dave’s friends Johnnie Szczepaniak, DJ Frank Thorpe, Bobby Mansure and Donna Delrieu, the party took place between the homes and decks of Larry and Peggy Berren, Szczepaniak, and Gary and Sue Smith. More than 250 family and friends gathered to celebrate the life of Whitnack, who owned Keystone Supply in Philadelphia and was an Avalon summer resident for more than 15 years. He lost his battle to stomach cancer in 2016.
This year’s party consisted of food and fun on the bay, Eagles-themed “Dave Day” T-shirts, and raffle prizes from area restaurants including The Watering Hull, Doc Magrogan’s Oyster House, The Whitebrier, Icona, Fred’s Tavern and Bobby Dee’s Rock ’n Chair.
