Armadillo, Ltd. will host a pop-up show on Labor Day weekend featuring hand-blown votive candle holders and drinking glasses from glassybaby, a Seattle-based company. The special event will take place Saturday, Sept. 2, from 11am to 4pm. Proceeds from the event will go to glassybaby, which will donate 10 percent to two local nonprofit organizations: the Play With Jack Foundation and Friend In Need.
“Armadillo is so excited to be partnering with glassybaby and supporting two of our favorite local nonprofits, Friend In Need and Play With Jack,” says Jacquie Ewing, owner of the Armadillo. “It’s the perfect way to end summer and launch the fall.”
Glassybaby was founded by Lee Rhodes when the light of a candle in hand-blown glass gave her hope while healing from cancer. After beating the disease three times, she was inspired and created the business that is devoted to giving hope, beauty, kindness and millions of dollars to charity. The company employs more than 125 glass artists who have created hundreds of votive and drinkers in a variety of colors. Each hue is uniquely named with sentiments such as “happiness,” “gratitude,” “cherish” and “hope.”
In its five-week road-show tour, glassybaby is traveling through Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York and New Jersey, ending in Cape May -- stopping in 22 select cities along the way to promote its product while supporting local charities.
Armadillo, a year-round business in Avalon since 2002, carries beautiful home accents, gifts, décor and trendy, limited-edition, one-of-a kind items. This partnership with glassybaby on the Saturday of Labor Day weekend enables shoppers to add yet another unique piece to their home furnishings while shopping at Armadillo to benefit two great local charities.
The Play With Jack Foundation, established in 2000, raises funds and awareness in an effort to fight cancer in honor of the late Jack Cremin. The foundation holds two events each year: the spring fashion show and the Play With Jack Golf Outing in the fall. Friend In Need was established in 2003 by a group of Avalon residents and helps those who are in need in Cape May County. The organization hosts events throughout the year, including Super Bash at The Princeton, held annually on Super Bowl Sunday.
