Letter from the Editor
Dear Readers:
Can we PLEASE slow this summer down? I’d swear that we were just editing our Spring issue, and here it is, August. How does that happen? Our weather has been spectacular, and I want us all to enjoy the summer of 2024 as much as we can.
We have another informative and entertaining issue for you this month.
Dave Bontempo has been especially busy: He’ll bring you up to speed on the successes of both beach patrols, and tell you about platform tennis in Stone Harbor. Also, Dave outlines the details on the merger of Cape Regional Health System with Cooper University Health Care.
If you remember when the circus used to come to town – or even if you don’t – you’ll enjoy Dave Coskey’s look back on that time nearly a half-century ago. And speaking of looking back, Marybeth Treston Hagan will look back at a life incredibly well-lived with the legacy of Stone Harbor’s own Kim Rea Park.
If you haven’t already, I hope that you’ll plan to participate in the 2024 Designer House Tour. Mary Byrne Lamb will give you a sneak peek inside these stunning houses. And Grace Galbreath will tell you all about the Avalon Lions Club Golf Tournament that honored our great friend, the late Chuck Covington.
If opposites do in fact attract, then you’ll no doubt be drawn to Ocean Galleries this month to experience the art of expressionist Bette Ridgeway and impressionist Elena Bond. Mary Lamb has all of the details.
Plus, there are all the features you’ve come to expect in each issue – especially our Events at a Glance calendar. It’s the best way to get your month of August organized. And as always, there are our Must Have list, Times Talks, and Seven Mile Smilestones.
Thanks once again for making the Times the most-read publication on the island. We appreciate you taking the time to read each issue, and we also appreciate our advertisers who make it possible for us to print each issue for you.
The next time that we speak, Labor Day will be upon us (ugh!). Until then, let’s enjoy every day of this great summer.
Sincerely,
Monica Coskey
