Beautiful blue skies and sunshine set the scene for the 14th annual Avalon Lions Club Charity Golf Classic, held June 25 in support of the Helen L. Diller Vacation Home for Blind Children among other Cape May County charities. More than 100 golfers enjoyed the daylong event featuring a barbecue lunch, golf, dinner at the Avalon Links Restaurant and both a live and silent auction. The event raised more than $25,000.

“It was a great day, and we’re already planning for next year,” says Bruce Loversidge, the club president and event chair. “We’re thankful to our generous donors, the golfers, and the many Lions Club volunteers whose hard work made this event successful.”

Golfers could bid on silent and ticketed auction items such as a bicycle, a two-night stay at ICONA, a one-week stay at a condo in Myrtle Beach, S.C., various golf outings, baskets of cheer, and more.

Diller Home Camp Director Jim Moreland and campers Kallen and Corinne attended the golf outing to share their positive experiences of camp. Since its first year in 1972, the Diller Vacation Home has been providing blind and visually impaired children ages 7-15 with an all-expense-paid week at summer camp.

Throughout the year, the Avalon Lions Club raises funds to donate to local charities and organizations. Along with the Diller Vacation Home, the Lions also support The Branches, Friend In Need, the Blind Center of the Jersey Cape, CARA, CVAC, Concerned Citizens of Whitesboro, Holy Redeemer Food Pantry, Toys for Tots, Volunteers in Medicine, CASA, Family Promise, Cape Assist, Cape Hope, the Lighthouse Church, Habitat for Humanity, and the Lazarus House.
