Fore! The Kids: Lions’ Golf Classic Raises $42,000 For Diller Vacation Home

The Avalon Lions Club’s 13th Annual Charity Golf Classic raised a total of $42,000 for the Helen L. Diller Vacation Home for Blind Children.

The June 26 event at the Avalon Golf Club was a sellout with 128 golfers and featured beautiful weather, a barbecue lunch, and dinner at the Avalon Links restaurant. Avalon Lion Robin Mackintosh, a retired CBS3 reporter, emceed the golf awards and an expansive silent auction featuring golf trips, dining, sports tickets, and more.

Since 1972, the Diller Vacation Home has hosted blind and visually impaired children ages 7-15 for an all-expenses-paid week of fun at the shore. Campers enjoy a week of seashore experiences including beach days, roller-coaster thrills at Morey’s Pier in Wildwood, concerts, ice cream, talent show competitions and more. The camp, celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2022, is in full swing for the summer season with 128 campers attending throughout the summer, a few of whom were able to join the golfers during the tournament to share their positive experiences so far. These unique camp experiences are available due to generous donations from community supporters including the Avalon Lions Club.

“The Avalon Lions Club extends a huge thank you to our many generous donors, our golfers, and the many Lions Club volunteers whose hard work made this event successful,” said Bruce Loversidge, the event chair.

The success of the Golf Classic was made possible by a sellout attendance, generous bidding on the auction items, and the support of sponsors including Premier Sponsor Worldwide Jet; Double Eagle Sponsors JAK Securities and Holy Redeemer; Eagle Sponsors including Brandywine Developers, Pure Insurance, Wawa and Cape May Winery, and many more local businesses and organizations.

The Avalon Lions Club raises funds throughout the year to donate to a number of local charities and organizations. Along with the Diller Vacation Home, the Lions also support The Branches, Friend In Need, the Blind Center of the Jersey Cape, CARA, CVAC, Concerned Citizens of Whitesboro, Holy Redeemer Food Pantry, Toys for Tots, Volunteers in Medicine, CASA, Family Promise, Cape Assist, Cape Hope, the Lighthouse Church, Habitat for Humanity, and the Lazarus House.
