August is here and the sun is shining with full force! I hope you are spending your summer soaking up the sun and playing in the water. Here at Seven Mile Beach there are so many fun activities to choose from! If you’d rather just chill, August is a great month to relax and catch up on a few new books. Here are some fun titles to keep that mind working, even though school is still out!
Ages 3-5
“Llama Llama Learns to Swim” by Anna Dewdney
Llama Llama has won the hearts of millions of little readers with the “Llama Llama” series. In “Llama Llama Learns to Swim,” he is faced with the excitement and nervousness that most new swimmers feel when they face going into the water. Little ones will love relating their experience to his, and those who are still a little scared might find some courage when they see how well it works out for Llama Llama.
“Saving Fiona: The Story of the World’s Most Famous Baby Hippo” by Thane Maynard
Fiona is the first premature hippo born and raised in captivity. When she was born in January 2017, she was the size of a football. She couldn’t nurse or stay hydrated. The amazing staff at the Cincinnati Zoo knew what she needed. After hours and hours of research, studying the makeup of hippo milk, and even reaching out to expert pediatricians, they managed to nurse Fiona to health, and now she is thriving. Today, Fiona is an Internet celebrity!

“The Lifters” by Dave Eggers
Gran and his family move to a town named Carouse, and what seems like an ordinary place to live is anything but. What Gran doesn’t realize is that while he is doing simple, everyday things such as walking his sister to school, the town is slowly sinking as a result of mysterious forces that lurk underground. Gran’s friend, Catalina Catalan, opens a path to the underground and he follows her there, even though he doesn’t have as much courage as she does. Can the duo save their town before it’s too late?
“Positively Izzy” by Terri Libenson
Middle school isn’t easy. Izzy is a dreamer who wants to act in skits and make up funny stories of her own. The problem is that while she is playing out various fantasies, she doesn’t have much time to get her schoolwork done. Bri is the brain.
